Entrance
Arrival
Entry paperwork is carried out at the wharf at Haven Barcadera. You need to tie up to an old wharf in what appears to be an industrial, solitary part of the island. There is a dump located immediately to the NW of the wharf and you may very well be able to see the smoke emanating from the dump while well out to sea. Fenders and lines prepared on the port side when coming alongside. Both the Immigration and Customs offices are located right there and are staffed by very friendly and efficient officers.
Departure
Exit paperwork is to be done in the same place as the entry. They insiste on you tying up at the same old wharf and refuse to process you if you try to check out from a car.
If the old guy from the Port Authority sees you, he will charge you US$10 for tying up for 30 minutes. Try to get in and out fast to avoid his delightful request.

Anchorages
Aruba has also some good options to stay at anchor. Maybe the best anchorage is in front of the Surfside Beach. There is reasonably good protection, good holding ground (sand and seagrass) and it possible to go with the dinghy to the beach or use the dinghy dock at Renaissance Marina (beyond the fuel station). The only downside is that there are boats passing by and that is close to the Airport (see also "SY-Maya Blogpost on Aruba").
Another option is to anchor off Palm Beach in front of the hotels on the NW section of Aruba. There are lots of tourists, water activity, bars, restaurants, etc.

- We arrived on 24 December, checked in at Barcadera and then anchored off Palm Beach, where we had a Xmas Eve dinner at a beachside restaurant. On waking up on Christmas morning, we found the dinghy and outboard were gone. We had left them in the water, tied to the transom, unlocked. Be warned!
- The hotel section in the NW corner is quite similar to the USA in terms of all the fast food chains. The hotels and beaches are full of mainly US tourists with a substantial number of Venezuelans as well.
- than the dinghy theft, we had a great time, liked the friendly locals and would return. --Pincoya
