Buenaventura is a city in the Valle del Cauca department of Colombia. With a population of 324,207 (most of city development lies on Cascajal Island).

Caution while approaching Buenaventura because there may be debris and floating logs coming down the river.
Warning: Do not make a night approach because there are many fishing nets (unmarked).

Berthing
The port is not a good place for yachts and should be used only in an emergency. There are reports of violent crimes.

- There are frequent buses to and from Cali which is a 4 hours ride away for around COP$20,000
- Fast boats (lanchas) to Ladrilleros and close destinations leave from the Muelle Turistico in the center of town (COP$4,000 taxi ride from the terminal)
