Weather
The climate of Georgia is extremely diverse, considering the nation's small size. There are two main climatic zones, roughly separating Eastern and Western parts of the country. The Greater Caucasus Mountain Range plays an important role in moderating Georgia's climate and protects the nation from the penetration of colder air masses from the north. The Lesser Caucasus Mountains partially protect the region from the influence of dry and hot air masses from the south as well.
On the coast summers are warm and humid.

When a yacht is 12 nM from the coast they must hail and inform the Georgian Coast Guard on the VHF channel 16. Then when 6 nM from the port of entry they must hail Port Control on the same channel.
The Georgian Coast Guard does not permit foreign vessels to enter Georgian waters after visiting the disputed region of Abkhazia.
Russia does not permit foreign yachts to visit after having been to Georgia. The converse does not apply.
It is advisable to cross the border into Georgia in international waters i.e. at least 12 miles off-shore. In the past a yacht was confiscated because it crossed close to the coast.
Departure
Before departing from a port a yacht must clear out of Georgia, even if they plan to return to the same port. In which case they have to clear-in again via VHF channel 16.
