Navigation

Approaches to Kelibia are straight forward, no dangers. But:

Warning: The entrance to the harbor may be silted. As of March 2012 no problems existed with silting of the entrance to the harbour.

Entrance

Kelibia is a port of entry to Tunisia. But, like all Tunisian ports, you must check-in even if you have already been cleared into the Tunisia.

For details about clearing see Tunisia.

Berthing

The harbor is usually full of fishing boats and you may have to raft. There is pontoon for boats clearing customs. The harbour master (speaks only French) is likely to come to your boat soon after you arrive. A guy that helps out visiting docks who calls himself 'the guardian' (speaks only French) (phone no +216 21 348 962) will help you out finding a place when you arrive and is helpful with local knowledge for a small fee.

Warning: There can be an uncomfortable swell in the harbor.

Marinas & Yacht Clubs

The harbor operates as a marina.

Anchorages

You should be able to anchor-off as we did in 2001. --Istioploos Greece Icon.png

  • A Carrefour supermarket is nearby the fresh produce market.
  • A bunch of small shops are located just outside the marina including a few small fruit and vegetable shops.

Internet/WiFi

  • The trendy Pizza cafe La Sicilliana overlooks the harbour and has free wifi and serves good pizza, panini, sandwiches, good fresh juices, mocktails and cakes. If you do not like smoky environs ask for the non smoking room. Very busy Saturday and perhaps other nights. It is the place will lots of bud / fairy lights on the outside.

  • When we went to Kelibia in 2001, the harbor was very crowded with fishing boats and had a bad smell. We did not stay. --Istioploos 22:09, 19 August 2008 (EEST)
  • Visted Kelibia in March 2012. For those that like the character of a fishing harbour and local Tunisian goings on, Kelibia is a good place to visit. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. You are likely to be tied up alongside other vessels on the one crowded non fishing boat quay. Rr7
  • In May 2013 no one answered our calls on VHF as we approached. We went inside and tied up alongside another yacht on the visitor's berth. The police and custums people where there waiting for us. They were very friendly. Mostly interested in how much unopened spirits we had. Not interested in our beer or wine. Filled in lots of paperwork, then went away with our passports. The policeman then returned with our stamped passports and asked for a gift. He was happy with 5 euro we gave him. There were no other charges. We then went into town by taxi (one Dinar, given to us by our neighbour) and bought an Orange dongle and SIM for the laptop for 70D for one month/10GB. No one asked for money for us being tied up at the dock, however we did go ashore to the Harbour Master to pay what came to 23DT for a 'less than a week' stay. --LifePart2
