A historic tourism town Le Treport became popular in the early 20th century when the French started providing holidays for workers. It is an active fishing port and sports a good range of fish restaurants.

We'd definitely recommend a visit however please pay attention to the berthing, there may not be space, and navigation notes below.

Charts

Our cruising association almanac had out of date pilotage charts.

Navionics provided a pretty accurate view. As this is a commercial shipping port the entrance is dredged and well maintained.

Communication

VHF 12 for the marina office or call 02 35 86 27 67. Good English spoken.

Navigation

Entrance to the locked basin of the port is limited to around 3 hours before/after high water and the entrance dries on a low spring tide. As an active commercial port the lock is active during the lock-in/out windows through the night.

We anchored in front of the general marina entrance area while waiting for the tide to come up and had a good hold.

Entrance

Le Treport is a port of entry/exit to France.

For entrance details see France.

Berthing

As pilot guides suggest there is very limited space in the non-commercial area of the port.

There is one alongside area that could fit a boat up to 14 meters but it is not guaranteed to be available. We brought in our 13m sail boat and moored alongside some unusually unwelcoming sailing crew in a 12m sailboat. There was one finger pontoon available. However, it was slightly hazardous as tour boats seemed to be using the area to turn around.

Finally there was one 11m sailboat with fenders out which would support a smaller boat. We visited in April which is well outside the main season. With adequate determination anything is possible. I would always call in advance to discuss options in advance.

Marinas & Yacht Clubs

There is a small yacht club, we didn't visit.

Yacht club website: http://yctreport.free.fr/historique.php Video of the port/yacht club, in the intro the locked basin to the right is where you should be heading for mooring: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mt1x5MJclcY

Anchorages

Anchoring in the bay in-front of the port is possible however, be sure to be clear of the entrance as it is busy with fishing boats at certain times. Bear in mind also that at springs there is a 10m tidal range so you will need 50-60m of chain to anchor safely.

Dinghying in is a possibility if you tie up at the yacht club. Beware of tides as it does dry and you'll be stranded if you come in at night and there's a falling tide.
