More notes about the marina

The Porto Turistico di Ragusa is situated at the settlement of Marina di Ragusa, a small village and harbour 20 miles west of Pozzallo and 29 miles SE of Gela on the S coast of Sicily. The marina provides 723 berths for yachts of up to 50 metres in length and maximum draft of 5.0 metres.

Communication

Contact Porto Turistico di Ragusa on VHF channel 74 prior to entry. For advance reservation, Email or telephone: +39 932 230301.

Navigation

There are no hazards in the approach. Entry to the marina is from due east in a long arc around the eastern breakwater. The entrance has a tendency to silt up so keep to the side with the red light when entering and leaving. The entrance is lit at night, red and green flashing 3 seconds. If you have not been to the marina before, radio the marina and they will send someone in an inflatable to guide you in.

Berthing

Assistance is available. Berth where instructed on one of the 13 pontoons - the marina staff are all very helpful. Radio in on 74 and a man will come and guide you to your space. The berths are secure, with two bow lines per berth. They do not like chains on the stern lines as they make the stanchions corrode.

Facilities

The marina office is staffed by some of the most helpful staff ever. There is a little complex of businesses which includes a minimarket, cafe/bar, a travel agent, laundrette, yacht clothing, ATM/cashpoint and a yacht maintenance store - not a full chandlery. Up the stairs from the marina there is a bakery and pharmacy.

Repairs

The is a fully functioning yard with travel lift (160T), mobile crane (60T) and fixed crane (10T). Outdoor and indoor storage. Engine, electrical, electronic and hull repairs. Sail repairs. Divers. There are reported restrictions on carrying out some yacht maintenance tasks, for which yard personnel are supposed to be used.

Security

Security for the yachts is good. Note: although access to the pontoons is through a locked gate there have been some thefts, mainly of bikes left just outside the gate (2013)

Location

Porto Turistico is walking distance to the little town of Marina di Ragusa. This is a nice place with lots of restaurants and cafes. Busy in the summer months. Excellent chandlery - Solo Nautica.

Transportation

  • There are buses a few times a day to Ragusa.
  • Once or twice a day there is a bus to Catania airport
  • Taxis can be arranged through the marina's travel office

Price

Typical price for 13 metre yacht: € 87 (high season) to € 33 (low season).

  • This marina is very popular with liveaboards. This is primarily owing to the low price for the winter period. However the marina is very protected and safe, even in bad weather. The front desk staff could not be more helpful. There is a lively community in winter of liveaboards with a radio net daily to co-ordinate the many activities. It is hoped that the airport at Comiso will open in the Spring of 2013 as it is much nearer than Catania. --Zebahdy of London
