A convenient diversion when northbound the town of Puyuhuapi was settled by Germans in the period immediately before WW2. Close south of Puyuhuapi is Bahia Dorita with several moorings owned by the 5-star 'Termas de Puyuhuapi' resort. While not cheap a day spent at the resort in the thermal springs is worth every peso after a month or two of working your way through the channels from the south.

Passages

When northbound an approach up Canal Puyuhuapi and a departure via Canal Jacaf does not add a huge distance to a passage to Pto Montt and also provides shelter from the prevailing N'lys which can raise an uncomfortable sea in Canal Moreleda.

Communication

Nil.

  • Made an overnight stop in April 2017 at which time the place looked as if it had been hit by a mud bomb due to the number of roadworks that were in progress…
Apart from the owner's motor boat we were the only boat in the marina. Cost was 30,000 pesos a night. Only facilities were fresh water. If needing stores I would go to Aguirre instead. Quality of fuel was, however, good. Frank.
