Zlarin Island lies off the mainland coast of Croatia just under three miles SW of the port of Šibenik and nine miles ENE of the island of Žirje. It is the second largest in a group of islands stretching from the channel leading into Luka Šibenik, the ‘inland sea’ off the port of Šibenik, as far as the Kornati archipelago. The inhabitants historically supported themselves by fishing and diving for corals, and there is a small coral workshop on the island today. Today’s population of 276 swells to over 1500 during the summer, but the island has remained blessedly car-free and its forested interior is a pleasure to explore. Although under four square miles in total area, the island has a small harbour suitable for visiting yachts, Luka Zlarin, which is well sheltered in all but strong NW or N winds.

The approach to Luka Zlarin is free of dangers from the W, but from the E and the N, there are two shoals 500 metres and 1100 metres NW of the headland at the northernmost tip of Zlarin Island. The shoals are both marked and a yacht may safely pass on either side of both of them with good clearance. On entering the bay, keep towards the centre as there are further shoals off the NE side.
Entrance
Šibenik is the nearest all-year round port of entry. During the summer, Sali on Dugi Otok and Primošten on the mainland are also ports of entry.
Berthing
The harbour of Luka Zlarin is the only berthing option on the island. It lies at the head of a deep, V-shaped bay on the NW side of the island.

Visiting yachts berth where directed on either side of the long jetty at the N end of the harbour, where there are depths of from 1.5 towards the root to 5.5. metres at the end. During quiet periods it is possible to lie alongside, but during the season a yacht should go bows or stern-to. The jetty is also used by ferries and excursion boats, but local harbour staff are on hand during the season to instruct yachts where to moor.
Alternatively, shallow to moderate draft yachts can moor if there is space available on the second or third jetties from the entrance. Depths here are 2.0 - 2.5 metres. There are laid moorings at some of the berths.Marinas & Yacht Clubs
