Turkeli (or to give it its full name Turkeli Feneri) is a small fishing harbour on the European side and at the northern end of the Bosphorus (Strait of Istanbul). It is an out-and-out fishing harbour and absolutely no provision is made for visiting yachts, but it is a convenient stop on the European side of the Strait for yachts passing to or from the Bulgarian coast to the NW. A yacht planning to stop here should be prepared to lie alongside a fishing boat, as this will often be the only option (especially during the close period for fishing of May to September).

Local Weather
See Turkey. For most of the time, even in settled weather, winds blow down the Strait from the N and can funnel strongly in the narrower parts. It is not advisable to attempt a transit up to Turkeli in strong winds from N unless your engine is exceptionally powerful.
Navigation up to Turkeli is straightforward (see Bosphorus). The harbour breakwater will not be seen until rounding a small cape with shallows off it (marked with an E cardinal mark) a mile south of the harbour. Once past this, the breakwater and the rocky islet at the NE corner of it is clearly identifiable. The entrance is oriented due S. Beware of the fish traps to the W of the entrance, which have stakes secured with long lines to the sea bed.
Check-in facilities (for Customs and Immigration)
There are two quayed basins in the harbour. Most boats berth in the inner harbour, where there are depths of around 4.0 metres. All the quays are normally full of local fishing boats and (especially during the close period of May to September) a yacht will have no option but to lie alongside a fishing boat.

- The harbour gives good shelter from the prevailing N/NE winds, but is not a place to linger.--Athene of Lymington 12:40, 13 June 2011 (BST)
