The Marina of Isla Cristina is a purpose-built marina constructed on the eastern bank of the River Carreras, which enters the sea 3.5 miles east of the estuary of the River Guadiana, the river marking the Spanish/Portuguese border. The entrance lies about half a mile upstream from the Marina of Isla Canela on the opposite, western bank of the river. Becuase of the depths and configuration of the marina, it is really only suitable for yachts up to 12 metres.

Sources for Weather forecasts:
The Marina of Isla Cristina is situated about 1.5 miles upriver from the entrance to the River Carreras. A red and white marker buoy half a mile off the moles at the river entrance should be left close to starboard on the approach, which should be on a course of 312°. The ends of the moles are marked with red and green markers (lit). Keep to the port side of the buoyed channel to avoid the shallow sandbanks to starboard. Pass the Marina of Isla Canela on the western side of the river and continue in the buoyed channel, which leads to the eastern side of the river, avoiding extensive sandbanks in the centre. The marina entrance is to starboard opposite buoy no 9. Note that currents in the river can be up to 2.0 knots on the ebb.
