Connected by a bridge from the mainland, Bribie Island is now regarded as an upmarket northen suburb of Brisbane. It is 34km long and 8km at its widest, and is the smallest and most northerly of three major sand islands forming the coastline sheltering the northern part of Moreton Bay. Tourism is a major part of the Bribie Island economy, and the northern half of the island is a national park.
