Espiritu Santo (also known by locals as just Santo) is the largest island in the nation of Vanuatu, with a population of around 40,000 according to the 2009 census. The largest town on the island and the second largest town in Vanuatu is Luganville.
The west coast of Santo contains some excellent cruising grounds -- close anchorages, calm seas and settled winds, protected from the trade winds. Luganville is a useful provisioning stop, is a port of entry for Vanuatu, and there are some yachting services under development there.
