====Overview====

[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holyhead Holyhead] is a major ferry port to Ireland. It has been a port for thousands of years and with the addition of a substantial breakwater extending some two and half miles it is very well sheltered from all but gales from the NE. The port has a busy ferry schedule and High Speed Ferries operate regularly. It is important to note in the entrance to the port ferries do not give way to small boats. The Holyhead Marina is located in the western end of the harbour.

Holyhead Marina

Holyhead is a major ferry port to Ireland.

Navigation

Entrance is from Holyhead Bay and is free from dangers. It can be approached in all conditions and it is a port of refuge. The end of the breakwater is at 53°19.87′N, 04°37.13′W. When past the white and black lighthouse tower on the breakwater on the starboard side, leave the green conical Spit buoy (FL.G.3s) to starboard. This marks an area of the breakwater that has collapsed. Maintain this offing from the breakwater until the marina. Do not venture too far to port as there is shoal ground marked by two port hand buoys. As you approach the Marina be carful to avoid the rows of moorings. Leaving the Marina to starboard, and secure to the outer side of the marina breakwater on the temporary Visitors' Berths. In strong North Easterlies it is advisable to go inside the breakwater by following it on your port side until you are able to round the end and secure to the inner side.
