Background Inebolu, the ancient Greek Ionopolis, is an industrial harbor. The harbor is ugly, with several ships loading coal. Yet, its water is much cleaner than the water in Samsun. And most importantly there is no smell! The town is much more attractive than most of the towns between Samsun and Trabzon. It is fairly nice and it has a more-or-less clean beach and many old and interesting buildings.

The Harbor of Inebolu

The Town of Inebolu

You can anchor off anywhere within the harbor as long as you do not impede the comercial traffic. Anchor in 5 m depth, good holding, but let out plenty of chain, at least 40 m, to counteract the strong swell. The bottom is mud and you will have to spend sometime cleaning the chain before departing.

Warning: There is a very strong swell entering from the E into the harbor.

Caylioglu

GPS: 41°58′N, 34°30.4′E
Çaylioğlu is a small harbor about 35 nM east of Inebolu. It provides very good all weather shelter.

Anchor in the middle of the harbor.

There is village about 2 km inland but there are no stores there.

Tourism & things to do ashore

The town and its environs is not unattractive and has many old houses.

• Fuel - There is a filling station about a 5 minute walk from the harbor towards the town (which is W of the harbor), you will have to carry cans

• A restaurant in an old building in the town near the shore located on the second floor. It is rather old fashioned with a nice view of the sea. They serve a nice assortment of appetizers which can be followed by tasty kebabs
