More notes about the Marina

Marina San Giusto is situated in a small basin, enclosed by an L-shaped floating pontoon, at the SW end of the Porto Vecchio of Trieste on the NE Adriatic coast of Italy. The marina lies immediately E of the large yacht basin of Bacino Sacchetta, where all berths are in concession to yacht clubs. The marina currently provides 226 berths for yachts up to 24 metres, plus 13 alongside berths for ‘megayachts’. Depths in the basin are 5.0 - 17.0 metres.

Marina radio contact

Call Marina San Giusto on VHF channel 12 or 14. Alternatively, telephone or email in advance for berthing information and reservations.

Navigation/Approach

The approach to Trieste and the Porto Vecchio is well buoyed and free from dangers. Three detached breakwaters SW of the Porto Vecchio are conspicuous in the approach from S, while in the approach from N the lighthouse of Faro della Vittoria, on a hill behind the suburb of Barcola two miles N of the Porto Vecchio, is a good landmark. Closer in, the numerous yacht masts at the SW end of Porto Vecchio are clearly visible. The marina is entered at the NW corner through a narrow gap in the wavebreak pontoons that protect it. Shelter is good in all conditions, although a full-scale “bora” might make some berths dangerous.

Berthing

Berthing assistance available on request. Berths are on pontoons, catwalks and floating wavebreak pontoons. Most berths have finger pontoons; the berths for larger vessels have laid moorings tailed to buoys. The very largest, so-called ‘superyachts’ berth alongside. The inner, most southerly berths are accessed via electronically-controlled retractable pontoons.
