More notes about the Marina

The Marina di Cala Galera is a modern marina situated at the SE side of the prominent Argentario peninsula of Italy, half a mile N of Porto Ercole and at the W end of a long sandy spit connecting the rocky peninsula to the mainland. The marina offers 700 berths on 12 piers and quays for yachts of up to 50 metres. It gets very crowded here in summer and berths are at a premium at this time, since the marina is only some 130 kilometers from Rome along the Via Aurelia.

Marina radio contact

Call Marina di Cala Galera on VHF channel 09 prior to entry, giving your boat name, length and draught.

Navigation/Approach

The marina is just round the headland from Porto Ercole. The long E breakwater will be visible on rounding the headland. The entrance is oriented NNE. Depths in the entrance are 3.0 - 3.5 metres. Beware of a shallow patch of only 2.0 metres just N of the starboard entrance mark. A marina RIB will normally guide you in if you have reported arrival on channel 09 (especially if your draught is around 3.0 metres or more). Note: if the marina is full, there is a sheltered anchorage in all but strong E winds just N of the marina, where a yacht can anchor off the beach in 3.0 - 5.0 metres. Holding is good in sand and mud.
