- Low Isles is a coral island located 8 nautical miles north east off the coast of Port Douglas and is an ideal spot for an inner reef adventure. There is an abundance of sea life and coral and it is the home of a large population of turtles. Low Isles is made up of two islands, Woody Island an uninhabited coral/mangrove island and Low Island, a sandy coral cay typical of the Great Barrier Reef. Here you can come ashore, swim in the lagoon bay and see the active lighthouse. Low Isles has also been a research station since the late 1920's and is still the site of significant research for the Great Barrier Reef. There are 3 public moorings and if they are occupied then anchoring is easy close by with good holding. Low Isles is a 'Green Zone' so no fishing of any kind.
