More notes about the Marina |
|
The construction site was a naval shipyard named Arsenal, which fell into disuse after the Yugoslav Wars and the decline of the SFR Yugoslav Navy. The attractive lot on which the shipyard is situated was put on public offering in 2006, and was bought by Canadian businessman Peter Munk.
The shipyard has been transformed into a luxury yacht marina and a waterfront community, which caters to needs of growing community of superyacht owners. The favourable position of Tivat in the secluded part of Bay of Kotor, together with the proximity of Tivat Airport, makes it favourable location for a marina.
The marina has berths for 650 yachts, 150 of them super yachts, up to 150m long.
The waterfront community behind the main docks features about 250 condo units, conference centre, a market square, an art gallery, a museum, a sports complex and 10,000 square metres of retail space, including a supermarket and a department store. A Four Seasons 5 star hotel is almost complete (May 2013)
Marina radio contact
The approach is easy. As you head west down Tivatski Zaliv look for the huge crane painted with red and white horizontal stripes that marks the marina. When close to the marina keep an eye out for the pilings for the marina's expansion. They are marked as isolated danger marks
Berthing
Assistance is available from the helpful staff who all speak perfect english.
Tivat is an all year port of entry. You can complete all paperwork at the marina. On approach and arriving from outside of Montenegro, ask the staff if you should go to the customs quay or straight to the berth. If you go to the berth, the marina staff will deal with all the paperwork.

Personal experience
We visited in May 2013. It is a fully functioning marina and still expanding. All restaurants and bars in the complex are open for business - and busy. The staff are most helpful. It is worth hiring a car for a day to drive around the surrounding countryside. €45 a day. Duty free fuel needs organising at least 24 hours in advance. The office will help.
