The small island of Levrnaka lies off the SW coast of the island of Kornat in the Kornati Islands group of Croatia. It is separated from Kornat by a channel just 200 metres wide at its narrowest point. The island offers just two anchorages, offering good shelter in N and S winds respectively, one of which also has mooring buoys and a restaurant during the season. As part of the Kornati National Park, a daily permit is required to visit the island. Ashore, the island is largely barren and uninhabited except for the restaurant staff during the season.

Weather
Diurnal winds among the islands are mostly moderate during the summer months, predominantly from NW and rarely exceeding force 4/5, although gusting is common in narrow channels between islands and on the lee side of headlands. At night, katabatic winds off the mountains affect some of the islands close to the mainland coast. During early spring and (especially) autumn conditions can be more unsettled, occasionally accompanied by violent thunderstorms - luckily of short duration - with winds of 30-35 knots or more and vicious, steep seas. In the winter the sudden, violent N wind off the mountains, the bora, is much to be feared, especially along the coast from Rijeka down to Zadar, although its effects can be felt as far south as Split.
Equally prevalent in winter - although not uncommon in summer - is the scirocco, a S/SE wind that blows up from North Africa, usually in advance of a depression moving E across the Mediterranean. Unlike the bora, the scirocco only occasionally exceeds gale force, but is still a phenomenon to be wary of, especially if on a lee coast.

Zadar is the nearest all-year port of entry. In summer only, Sali on Dugi Otok is also a port of entry.

Anchorages
U. Levrnaka
U. Levrnaka is a long and deep inlet entered from the NW side of the island. Depths in the inlet are considerable - over 20 metres in places - and, if anchoring, it is necessary to take lines ashore as you will be dropping in 15-18 metres. Note that there is a sunken wreck at the head of the inlet which needs to be avoided when mooring. A better option here is to pick up one of the buoys at the SW end of the inlet or go bows/stern-to jetty near the restaurant at the head of the bay (the staff are friendly and will assist in mooring if needed) - berths for app. 20 sailing boats. Shelter in the inlet is excellent in all but NW winds. Two restaurants ashore during the season. The one at the head of the bay (called "Levrnaka") has freshly caught fish and an aquarium with live sea food - and also supplies electricity in the evening, and water (for a charge: 75 kunas for 100 liters).
A walking path leads to a shingle and sand beach on the other side of the island.

Places to Visit
There are no permanent settlements on Levrnaka, the sparsely scattered houses being occupied seasonally by fishermen or other owners from the mainland or adjoining islands. Most of the summer residents consists of the restaurant owners and their families. There are no restrictions on walking ashore, but bear in mind that most of the land is private property.
