The small island of Prvic lies off the mainland coast of Croatia, barely three miles W of the port of Sibenik. The islands of Tijat and Zlarin lie immediately W and SE respectively. Although Prvic has a total area of under a square mile, the island supports a population of around 450 - a surprising population for an island of its size. Most of the inhabitants live in the two settlements of Prvic Luka on the S side of the island and Sepurine on the W side. Apart from some olive oil and wine production (as well as fishing) , the overwhelming source of revenue for the island is tourism. Like many of the smaller Croatian islands, Prvic is traffic-free.

Weather
Diurnal winds among the islands are mostly moderate during the summer months, predominantly from NW and rarely exceeding force 4/5, although gusting is common in narrow channels between islands and on the lee side of headlands. At night, katabatic winds off the mountains affect some of the islands close to the mainland coast. During early spring and (especially) autumn conditions can be more unsettled, occasionally accompanied by violent thunderstorms - luckily of short duration - with winds of 30-35 knots or more and vicious, steep seas. In the winter the sudden, violent N wind off the mountains, the bora, is much to be feared, especially along the coast from Rijeka down to Zadar, although its effects can be felt as far south as Split.
Equally prevalent in winter - although not uncommon in summer - is the scirocco, a S/SE wind that blows up from North Africa, usually in advance of a depression moving E across the Mediterranean. Unlike the bora, the scirocco only occasionally exceeds gale force, but is still a phenomenon to be wary of, especially if on a lee coast.

Berthing

Anchorages
U. Kobila

The anchorage of U. Kobila lies 500 metres S of the harbour of Sepurine, inside the headland of Rt. Kobila, and offers reasonable shelter with moderate winds from E or S but is completely open with anything N or W in the wind. It is also quite shallow and it is necessary to anchor some way out to find good depths. Anchor in 4.0 - 5.0 metres about 100 metres offshore. The holding is good in sand and weed. The anchorage should only be used in settled weather.

Both Prvic Luka and Sepurine have some attractive mansions built by the Sibenik aristocracy from the 16th century onwards. In Sepurine, the 17th century church of St. Rok has an impressive Baroque altar.
