Born in Aberdeen Scotland I am an RYA Yachtmaster Instructor with about 45,000 ocean miles as skipper.

My family and I built our 60 foot ultralight criuser in the back garden of our home in Shropshire and then motored her down to the Med through the rivers and canals of France over one winter - which was pretty cold.

Since then we've cruised the Med to Turkey, crossed the Atlantic three times, cruised the Caribbean and sailed from Plymouth to Sydney. On the way we motored 200 miles up the River Gambia in West Africa taking medical supplies to eye surgeons working for Sightsavers International - the UK charity that fights avoidable blindness in developing countries.

Now in Sydney, I am planning my next trip.
