Camarinhas is not an especially attractive town, having suffered both in the Napoleonic Wars and more recently the Spanish Civil War.  Most of the town today is reinforced concrete.  However, if you are interested in lace this is the place to come, with seemingly half the women in Camarinhas engaged in lace making and a thriving museum of lace.

The Ria de Camarinhas lies on the coast of NW Spain, some 18 miles NNE of Cape Finisterre. It is the most southerly of the so-called Rias Altas (northerly Rias) and, lying as it does at the extreme NW tip of Spain, is also the most westerly. There are several good anchorages in the N and S arms of the Ria, depending on wind direction and visiting yachts can also find pontoon berths in the small harbour of Camarinhas in the N arm and the even smaller harbour of Muxia immediately inside the headland at the S entrance to the Ria. Shelter in the two harbours is good in the prevailing NW winds, but the shelter is less good in strong easterlies.
