Check-in facilities
If you are entering Malta, the authorities will usually directed you to go, side-to, at the breakwater in the W of Msida Marina where you clear customs.
The berthing choices are: the well run Msida Marina, mooring stern or bow-to on Lazaretto Creek along the Sliema quey, or anchoring off near the Manoel Island. Up to date information is available from the Malta Maritime Authority, telephone +356 21 33 28 00
Marinas
- Msida Marina. A floating pontoon marina in Marsamxett harbour. Now privately run.
- Msida Breakwater. Stern or bow to mooring with tailed lines to the breakwater. Electricity and water points. No showers or toilets. Controlled by Malta Maritime Authority. Note that the MMA office in the corner of the nearby Royal Malta Yacht Club is closed since February 2011.
- Lazaretto Creek. Stern or bow to the quay. Controlled by Malta Maritime Authority.
- Manoel Island Marina. A floating pontoon marina in Marsamxett harbour on the south side of Manoel Island.
Anchorages
Lazaretto Creek
Lazaretto Creek is not as preferable as Msida because it is open to the public and much more exposed to the NE Gregale but a visiting yacht may have no choice in the mater. There are laid mooring and if you are lucky you will be directed to a berth with one. Go stern-to. If you have to anchor be aware of a very fouled bottom.
Like in Msida fuel is provided by trucks, which come every day. Also, a vegetable truck comes every morning bringing fresh produce, bread, etc. Several trades people (carpenters, sailmakers, etc.) come by offering their services.
Warning: When the NE wind blows, the dreaded Gregale, a very uncomfortable and possibly dangerous swell develops. Anchors drag.

Manoel Island
You can, if there is room, anchor off near Manoel Island.
Warning: The bottom is very fouled and the holding can be problematic especially when the NE wind blows, the dreaded Gregale. Anchors drag, if not yours maybe your neighbor's.
