Background
Gramvousa is a small island off the northwest coast of Crete. On the island there is a Venetian Castle.

The anchorage on the southern side of Gramvousa island can be approached either from the west, in which case care should taken to avoid the reefs extending south from the SW corner of the island and north from the Tigani peninsula. A safer approach is from the north, where a course midway between the island and the isolated Petalidho rock brings you up to the anchorage. A rusting wreck marks the eastern end of the bay.
Check-in facilities
Anchor in 5 meters in sand in the centre of the bay. The anchorage here is wonderful in settled weather, and adequately sheltered in strong NW or NE winds, although it is scary to see the white horses hurtling past either side of the anchorage.
Tourism & things to do ashore
There is an old Venetian castle on the western cliffs of the island, keeping watch over the sea lanes along the western side of Crete.
