Albufeira is a purpose-built leisure and marina development 15 miles east of Portimao and seven miles west of Vilamoura. The inner basin in which yachts berth is surrounded by rather gaudily painted luxury hotel rooms and apartments, boutiques, bars and restaurants. The development also contains a small boatyard and yacht club (details needed).

The marina is nearly two kilometers from the town of Albufeia itself. Albufeira is a big, brash and lively tourist resort which doesn’t appeal to all tastes, although the old town has reportedly a bit more character.
