Approach and Navigation

The Cape Cod Canal and Woods Hole have EXTREMELY strong currents. Do not attempt to go against the current unless you can maintain at least 10 knots of boat speed under engine power.

There are specific rules for Canal Passage. The Canal is operated and maintained by the US Army Corps of Engineers. You must follow the Canal rules when entering and passing through the Canal.

Information can be found at Corps of Engineers. You must transit the Canal under motor power.
