Conwy River

Conwy is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty and is the home of Conwy castle. The River Conwy is spanned by three bridges, the most impressive being Telford's suspension bridge built in 1826. At its entrance are two marinas, Conwy Marina and Deganwy Marina

Navigation

Entrance is via the Conwy Approach channel marked by the fairway buoy, red and white, at World icon.png 53°17.95′N, 3°55.55′W. Then follow the buoyed channel to enter the Conwy river. The channel is very narrow in some places and has several sharp bends. The channel and the position of the buoys changes regularly but up-to-date buoy positions and a pd of a map can be obtained from the Conwy harbour web site.

  • Robert Stephenson's splendid railway bridge from 1846
  • River trips offer spectacular views of the Conwy Valley
  • Trips from from the estuary go to Puffin Island, Anglesey and the Great Orme

Conwy Rail Station has trains to Hollyhead and to England along the North coast. Walkable to Conwy Marina without too much heavy gear (or take a taxi), Deganwy station is a few minutes walk from Deganwy marina and on the same line.
