Approach and Navigation

The small harbour of Leava offers shelter in all winds except SE-SW, although the swell is constant (BEWARE THE CORAL REEF IN THE HARBOUR). Alternatively, anchor off Alofi island in the channel.

Check-in facilities

Go ashore by dinghy to the "wharf" and check in with customs first (in the French Delegation building complex) and then the local gendarmerie (immigration). Both are within walking distance, south of the wharf.

• Ava Leava. Anchor midway between inner port & starboard marks in 10m. Good holding but can be very rolly. If weather turns to the west get out straightaway.

• Interesting Tapa available. For a tour of the island and other help contact Teli Fatuimoana give him some lures or Kava etc. He lives in the house immediately south of the small stream running into Ava Leava.

Fuel, Water, & Electricity

• Diesel available via jerry can. 161.5 francs/litre in 2010. Water available at wharf. US dollars very hard to change (bank opens 2 days/month). Cowafardis store in anchorage can arrange foreign exchange in limited amounts.
