Las Palmas is the main harbor and largest city, population 376,953, of Gran Canaria island which is part of the Canary Island archipelago. Gran Canaria has an area of 100.55 km<sup>2</sup> and it highest elevation is Pico de Las Nieves at 1,949 m. The other islands in the archipelago are: Tenerife, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, and Fuerteventura.
