Marciana Marina is situated on the NW coast of Elba, some eight miles west of Portoferraio. It is a useful point at which to break a passage from Bastia in Corsica to Portoferraio. The harbour is protected by a long breakwater, along which there are yacht berths. The breakwater encloses a large T-pontoon with more berths. The town is a good base for exploring the mountainous interior of the island or for ascending on the cable car to Monte Capanne.

Local Weather
Shelter is good in the harbour in the prevailing winds. However, strong winds with anything east in them cause an unpleasant swell. The harbour would probably become untenable in very strong easterlies.
Sources for Weather forecasts:
- There is a continuous (computerised voice) weather forecast on VHF 68 - first in Italian and then followed with an English translation.
- The same forecast is given in Italian and English on VHF coastal stations following a notification on channel 16.
- Navtex weather forecasts are broadcast from stations at Roma, Cagliari (Sardinia) and Augusta (Sicily).
No hazards in the approach. The breakwater can be difficult to see on the approach from west, but the prominent tower at its root is a good landmark. Depths in the harbour range from 2.0 - 8.0 metres; along the breakwater from 4.0 - 8.0 metres.
Check-in facilities (for Customs and Immigration)
There is a pontoon at the extremity of the breakwater and another T-pontoon in the harbour. Both have laid moorings, which are administered by the Circulo della Vela Marciana Marina (call on VHF channel 09 or telephone +39 0565 99027 or e-mail: [email protected]). There are usually club staff in attendance to advise on mooring. Alternatively, anchor moor on the quay at the root of the breakwater, taking care to avoid the numerous mooring chains. The bottom is mud and mostly good holding.
Offshore Islands and Groups
None.

Anchorages
- Golfo di Procchio 42°47.52′N, 10°14.82′E is 2.5 miles SE of Marciana Marina. Tuck into the northern end of the bay, clear of the small craft moorings. Holding is good in 4.0 - 6.0 metres on sand.
