More notes about the Marina

The purpose-built marina and residential development of Portegrandi is situated at the NW end of the Venetian Lagoon, three miles inland along a winding canal which passes en route the islands of Burano and Torcello. Developed on the site of a historic village, the development will eventually include 90 luxury apartments, a 300 berth marina with club house, leisure complex with swimming pool and a 115-room hotel. The marina can accommodate 300 yachts of up to 20 metres and has maximum depths of 3.4 metres.

Marina radio contact

Call Marina di Portegrandi on VHF channel 09. In view of the distance inland, it’s probably wise to telephone or e-mail in advance for berthing information and reservations.

Navigation/Approach

The marina of Portegrandi is approached via the Porto di Lido World icon.png 45°25.18′N, 12°26′E. The Porto di Lido is the principal (and busiest) entrance to the lagoon, giving the most direct access to Venice and Cavallino-Treporti. As the deepest channel with depths of over 10 metres, it is also the one used by ferries and large commercial vessels. The ends of the N and S breakwaters are identifiable by conspicuous black and white and red and white painted structures. A fairway beacon is situated around 2.5 miles SE of the entrance, from where a course of 300 degrees brings you safely through the entrance. The safe channel is also indicated by port and starboard markers. The channel is dredged to over 10.0 metres. Entry is best around slack water, since the tides can reach 4.0 knots at springs. In the entrance, keep to the N side of the channel and follow the NE channel, the Canale Treporti (marked with mooring posts) round Punta Sabbioni rather than the SW one which leads to Venice itself. After two miles, fork left into the Canale di Burano leaving the island of Burano to port and the island of Torcello to starboard, then take the Canale Borgognoni and finally Canale Silone. The marina is around three miles inland up the Canale Silone.
