Credentials? What kind of credentials do you need to report on the cruising area you visit?
At the age of 16 I built a sailboat. While an electrical engineering student at UC Berkeley I crewed on races in San Francisco Bay. Starting in 2000 I returned to sailing, and took several ASA courses, culminating in an instructor certification. Concurrently I was chartering from the Moorings and others around the world. One week a year was just not enough. I now own Mezzaluna, a 46' ketch, which I live aboard many months each year.
I agree that cruising guides are outdated, at least that has been my experience during my sailing in the Caribbean. I am glad to find a cruising wiki, now I do not have to start one.
