There are no dangers in the approach, although with moderate to strong winds from NW round to E an unpleasant swell develops in the gulf and the quay here is nearly untenable. The quay is protected by a short breakwater.

Valun is not a port of entry. The nearest port of entry is Mali Losinj on the island of Losinj.

Places to Visit

Valun is a highly photogenic hamlet, a cluster of old stone houses climbing up the hill from the harbour. Around the harbour are some good cafes and restaurants where one can sit and watch the infrequent comings and goings on the town quay. The small parish church of Valun displays an 11th tombstone inscribed in Glagolitic as well as Latin, one of the earliest examples in Croatia. On either side of the hamlet are some idyllic beaches, fringed with pines.
