More notes about the Marina

Yacht Club Marina is situated in the old harbour of the town of Mali Losinj on the island of Losinj in Croatia, at the head of a three mile deep inlet. The marina offers a total of 110 berths for yachts up to 30 metres in depths of 6.0 - 7.0 metres. The marina is safe in all wind conditions, although strong N winds can cause an uncomfortable chop. The marina is in the heart of the old town and close to all facilities. It is consequently very busy during the season.

Marina radio contact

In theory, call Yacht Club Marina on VHF channel 17 (reception open 0700 - 2100 in season). Alternatively, telephone or e-mail for advance reservations.

In May 2013, the marina was open for business but did not answer either the phone or the VHF. The marina staff simply keep a watch for approaching yachts and then wave to you.

Navigation/Approach

The approach to Mali Losinj is through a 500 metre wide channel between the island of O. Koludarc to the S and the headland of Rt. Torunza to the N. Both should be given a good clearance as there are shallows extending for some 50 metres off them. Yacht Club Marina lies at the head of the inlet, some three miles SE from the entrance.

An alternative approach is from the E of Losinj island, through the canal itself. Depths in the canal are around 3.0 metres but the width is little over 6.0 metres and passage is therefore only suitable for monohulls of moderate draft. The bridge which carries the road over the canal opens morning and evening (currently 0900 and 1800) to allow passage by yachts. Shelter in the marina is good in most conditions, although in strong NW winds conditions can get a little choppy.

Berthing

Berthing assistance is available. As you arrive, marina staff will wave to you and help with lines. Visiting yachts berth stern/bows-to on a series of five pontoons. Depths around 6.0 - 7.0 metres. Laid moorings at all berths.

Marina facilities

  • Toilets and showers are up an alley next to the Barracuda Restaurant. There is a sign for laundry, but you may have to give your washing to the dock man.

Repairs/Yard

None.

Security

Poor.

Marina Location

The marina is in the centre of the old town and close to all facilities.

Transport

  • Buses to Cres and Rijeka on mainland and, in season, Zagreb.
  • Seasonal ferries to Zadar and Pula.

Price

Current daily berthing price for typical 15 metre yacht is HRK 505 (June 2013). For 13 metre yacht: HRK 385 (June 2015)

Personal experience

Post your personal experience and rating of this marina.

  • It's worth trying to get a berth on the leeward (SE) side of the pontoons if there are any strong N winds predicted - they’re a lot more comfortable than on the windward side. --Athene of Lymington
  • The pontoons and lines are all very new. There are places for about 100 boats, all of which are transient. This marina is much better than the two adjacent to the ship yard. --Zebahdy of London
