Santa Marta (Spanish pronunciation: [ˌsanta ˈmaɾta]), officially Distrito Turístico, Cultural e Histórico de Santa Marta ("Touristic, Cultural and Historic District of Santa Marta"), is a city in Colombia. It is the capital of the department of Magdalena and the fourth largest urban city of the Caribbean Region of Colombia, after Barranquilla, Cartagena, and Soledad.

It is possible to anchor in 3 m of water just outside the marina entrance while you wait for daylight. Looks like you can also anchor just to the south of the marina although we did not see any boats anchored there. December 2011 --Pincoya

Transportation
- The Simón Bolívar airport has non-stop flights from Bogotá and Medellín
- The bus station (Terminal de Transporte). It is all the way out of town on the main highway. To get there, you can catch a bus/colectivo with the sign "UCC TRANSPORTE" at carrera 1. The ride will take some 45 minutes and cost about COP$2,000

Places to Visit
The marina is on Calle 23. Find your way to Calle 19 (4 blocks north) and follow it inland. It is for pedestrians and full of cool little outside bars and restaurants.
Friends
Dino is the dude. He will come to the marina and do your entry paperwork for US$50 and help with anything else. Speaks excellent English and Spanish.
He says, "Don't think of me as your agent. Think of me as your friend in Santa Marta who is available 24 hours per day to assist with anything, absolutely anything."
