I started sailing aged 10 with my grandfather on the Solent. After a 12 year gap, I returned, lemming-like, to the Solent and spent 5 happy years racing round the cans getting my bum wet in a Flying 15. Some years later when a tad more mature, I turned my attention to cruising, having successfully persuaded Sunsail to charter me a 30 footer that I had no real idea how to haandle. A few years later I bought Top Notch - an elderly GibSea 402 that I kept mainly in Turkey for 10 years. Life has now come not quite full circle again, and I now co-own a Bavaria 39 based, in theory, in Turkey.
