Background

Hopa is the Turkish port closest to the Turkey - Georgia border.

Although Hopa is a port of entry into Turkey its officials are not very familiar in clearing private yachts. It is advisable, if convenient to stop in Rize, about 30 nM west of Hopa, and clear formalities there.

The approaches to Hopa are straightforward.

Hopa Harbor

The harbor provides excellent all weather shelter.

You are not allowed here to anchor off as in most Turkish Black Sea harbors. The best protection is on southernmost corner. Moor either alongside, if there is room, or stern-to or bow-to (you will have to anchor).
