U. Knez from NE

The harbour of U. Knez is situated half a mile NW of the settlement of Mali Iz on the NE side of the island of Iz in Croatia. The harbour consists of a small, V-shaped inlet quayed at its head and three short stone jetties along which are small craft moorings. Visiting yachts can moor up up stern or bows-to the E side of the southernmost jetty, using the five mooring lines provided or pick up one of the mooring buoys laid by the two restaurants in the inlet. The inlet is protected from N by the islet of Knezak but is open to winds from E and SE.

Navigation

There are no dangers in the immediate approach to U. Knez. If approaching from N, it is possible in settled weather to pass between the islet of O. Knezak and Iz island, where there are least depths of 3.5 metres. However, in unsettled weather or with any swell running it is better to pass outside O. Knezak. Depths in the approach to the harbour are 5.0 - 6.0 metres and on the jetties around 2.0 metres.

Entrance

Zadar is the nearest all-year round port of entry, or Sibenik if arriving from S. During the summer, Sali on Dugi Otok and Primosten on the mainland are also ports of entry.

Berthing

Knez inner harbour is packed with local boats
There are five laid moorings on the E side of the breakwater

Yachts berth on the E side of the short southern breakwater, where there are five laid moorings in depths of 2.0 - 4.0 metres (the shallower berths being towards the shore). The shoreline shoals abruptly here and care is needed if using the berths closest to the shore. Alternatively, if there is space, it is possible to moor alongside the W side of the breakwater in 3.0 - 4.0 metres.

There are also around 20 mooring buoys laid in the N part of the inlet between Iz and islet of O. Knezak in around 4.0 - 5.0 metres which can be picked up by patrons of the Restaurant Baroni.
