The commercial port of Supetar is situated on the N coast of the island of Brač, 10 miles SE of the town of Split on the mainland of Croatia.
It is the main ferry port of the island and most of the tourists visiting the island during the summer are disgorged here. As such, it is not the quietest of places to moor and shelter is not as good as it might be in the afternoon sea breeze, which blows straight into the harbour from W/NW. However, it has the best selection of supermarkets and other shops on the island and is a good place to stop for provisions before exploring the island’s other harbours and anchorages. It is also handy as a pickup point for crew flying into the airport at Split.

The approach to Supetar has no hazards, although the coastline is shallow for some 300-400 metres off on either side of the harbour. Ferries from Split charge in and out of the harbour during the day and caution is needed on entering. The harbour consists of an outer basin behind a long breakwater oriented E-W and a smaller inner basin behind a wide jetty which is used by the ferries. Depths in the entrance are 6.0 metres; in the outer harbour 5.0 metres and in the inner harbour 3.0 - 4.0 metres.
Entrance
Split is the nearest all-year round port of entry. During the summer, Hvar, Vis and, if arriving from N, Primošten on the mainland also have ports of entry.
Berthing
Berthing options are limited in the harbour. The outer harbour is used by ferries and commercial ships lying alongside the breakwater or the jetty on its S side. Small craft on moorings occupy the rest of the outer basin.

Vlačica moorings

A recently refurbished quay along the Vlačica street (150 m) offers a number (approx. 30) berths at the W part of the harbour. It looks like water and electricity are available from the points along the quay. This location though appears to be quite exposed from NW to NE. The moorings are managed by the 'Grad' company.

Tourism
The 18th century Church of the Annunciation in the town has some interesting alter paintings inside. Relics of earlier occupation include some early 6th-century Christian mosaics located near the church, which date from the earlier church dedicated to St Peter on the site.
In the cemetery of the church of Sv. Nikola is an impressive white stone mausoleum dedicated to the Petrinovic family. In part of the cemetery are the remains of a Roman villa.
Around eight kilometres south of Supetar is the ancient village of Škrip, the oldest on the island, which is worth a diversion. There are remains here dating back to Roman and Illyrian times.
