| |
The small island of Vir in Croatia lies just off the SW end of the larger island Pag, separated from it by a channel less than a mile wide, the Kanal Nove Povljane. At its SE end, the island is joined to the mainland by a road bridge, the channel beneath which is navigable only by small vessels. The island has just one village on the S coast, Vir Town, with a population of around 1500, and an even smaller settlement on its N coast, Lozice. Although a small island, it is a popular destination for tourists from the mainland during the summer. Vir is less visited by yachtsmen than its neighbouring islands, however, in view of its limited facilities, which consist of an anchorage in the wide bay off Vir Town open to S winds and another off Lozice open N.

Places to Visit
Vir is a busy island during the summer, although somewhat less frequented by yachts than some of its neighbouring islands. There is little to do ashore but explore the village or trek the numerous pathways. There are plans for further development on the island, to include a hotel complex and marina, but these appear to have stalled for the time being.
