The harbour of Maratea  lies on the E side of the Golfo di Policastro on the Tyrrhenian coast of Italy, along the ‘instep’ of the peninsula. The harbour is better developed for yachts than most of the other harbours along this coast and therefore is usually busy, especially during July and August.  The harbour provides a total of 600 berths for vessels of up to 45 metres on its pontoons and quays.  Shelter in the harbour is good, although strong southerlies cause a swell.

The white marble statue of Christ dominating the village from the cliffs above is conspicuous from many miles off.  There are no dangers in the approaches to Maratea, though strong gusts off the mountains will be experienced with even moderate northerly winds.  The harbour is entered from NW and has depths of 8.0 - 10.0 metres in the entrance.  Entry can be difficult in strong winds from NW and W.

The harbour of Maratea lies on the E side of the Golfo di Policastro on the Tyrrhenian coast of Italy, along the ‘instep’ of the peninsula. The harbour is better developed for yachts than most of the other harbours along this coast and therefore is usually busy, especially during July and August. The harbour provides a total of 600 berths for vessels of up to 45 metres on its pontoons and quays. Shelter in the harbour is good, although strong southerlies cause a swell.
