Porvenir is a handy solution to stop for clear in and out in Punta Arenas, 19 miles NW off Porvenir. It is well sheltered from all winds and they into the bay are never very strong, there is a new good Marina, there is a daily ferry to Punta Arenas, but only one a day and also a cheap flying possibility (2014). In 2014 the inlet channel was dredged to 3 mt in LW and it is marked with buoyage. In Porvenir, 3 km far the Bahia Chilota where the Marina is placed, there are all service: grocery stores, post office, fuel station, hotels...

The inlet is easy and well marked. About half mile SW from Punta Palo, the nord entrance of the bay, there is a wreck marked by a buoy. The inlet channel in 2014 was dredged to 3 mt at LW. The channel is well marked with a buoyage sistem red and green, but in 2014 the lights was out of order.

Check-in facilities (for Customs and Immigration)

Porvenir is not a port of entry, you must go to Punta Arenas. There is an Armada Office near the Marina where you can check in and out only for inside Chile movements (VHF CH 16)

Berthing Options

You can anchor in the Bahia Chilota near the Marina or go to the Marina's wharf.

Marinas & Yacht Clubs

In 2014 there was a new pretty Marina in bahia Chilota with hot showers and power and water into the wharf. The dept asaid it is 2 to 3 mt at LW. The wharf sides are well protected with vertical rubber strips near one to the other and suitable for small yachts.

Personal Notes

I (Danbag) was in december 2014 in Porvenir for ten days and I thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and kindness of my namesake Marina's manager Danilo.
