The busy resort district of Cavallino-Treporti, situated on a long promontory protecting the N side of the Venetian Lagoon from the Adriatic, is second only to Venice Lido as a beach destination, with mile after mile of golden sands extending as far as the Sile River and the district of Jesolo to the NE. On its western, lagoon side there are two small marinas with good depths where yachts of up to 50 metres can find a berth in depths of up to 6.5 metres.

Local Weather
During the summer months the prevailing winds in the Adriatic are light to moderate coastal seabreezes. In spring and autumn, northerly winds are more frequent and can quickly rise to near gale force, especially in the northern Adriatic, where the much-feared “bora” is caused by high pressure over the mountains to the NE coupled with low pressure over southern Italy. Fortunately, the fiercest “bora” is normally to be expected in the winter months. Thunderstorms are occasionally experienced in spring and especially autumn and can be accompanied by violent winds of gale force and above. Luckily they are rarely long-lasting. Berthing Options
Yachts visiting Cavallino-Treporti have two principal berthing options in marinas capable between them of berthing a total of 330 vessels. The options are listed from S to N.
Marinas & Yacht Clubs
- Marina di Lio Grando
45°27.24′N, 12°26.04′E lies around one mile up the channel from the Porto di Lido in a quiet residential area. It offers 200 berths for yachts up to 40 metres in maximum depths of 5.0 metres. Click on link for full details
- Marina Fiorita 45°25.88′N, 12°22.03′E lies a further mile NE up the channel on the E side of a major fork in the channel where it curves round the N side of the district of Treporti. The marina has 160 berths for yachts up to 50 metres in maximum depths of 6.5 metres. Click on link for full details.
Anchorages
Port regulations prohibit anchoring anywhere in the lagoon of Venice, owing to the large number of electrical and other cables criss-crossing the lagoon bed.
