Messolonghi Marina lies on the W side of the basin that serves the town of Messolonghi two kilometers to the NE. Until recently (2009) the marina was only half-completed and somewhat derelict. Since then, however, a Greek/Dutch consortium has begun to invest in the site and the marina is rapidly acquiring the facilities expected of a ‘proper’ marina. Similarly, the configuration can be expected to change over the next couple of years as the number of berths is expanded to the planned 380 total. Currently the marina provides around 200 berths on three pontoons and associated quays, plus a further 20-30 on the two detached pontoons that serve as wavebreaks. Depths are 6.0 – 10.0 metres, the greatest depths being alongside the detached pontoons. However, note that the access channel to the basin has only 5.5 - 6.0 metre depths.

Communication

Call Messolonghi Marina on VHF channel 69 prior to entry. Alternatively, telephone or e-mail for advance information.

Navigation

The channel leading into the basin of Messolonghi is marked at its outer end with two port and starboard pillar buoys. It is essential to identify these before attempting entry as the areas on either side are shallow. Enter between the buoys in the centre of the channel and maintain a course of 007 degrees to the next two markers, two port and starboard posts marked with red and black bands respectively. Once past these continue in the channel, which is marked with three further pairs of port and starboard markers. Depths in the channel are at least 5.5 – 6.0 metres right through to the basin. Once into the basin, be sure to continue to the centre before turning W for the marina, as there are shallow areas to either side of the basin entrance. The marina is currently (September 2011) entered around either end of the two detached wavebreak pontoons on the E side of the marina (but see website for future planned configuration).

Berthing

A berth will be assigned on arrival. Marina staff will assist with mooring. Note that the two detached pontoons have alongside berthing without water or electricity but the charge is the same as on the main pontoons.
