Approach to Marina Orikum (left of breakwater end)
The land entrance still shows traces of the Hoxha regime

Marina Orikum, currently the only operational marina in Albania, is situated 1.5 kms N of the small town of Orikum in the Gulf of Vlorë, around 10 miles SSE of the NE tip of the Karaburum Peninsula. The marina, which is Italian-owned and managed, offers around 70 berths for yachts up to 15 metres in depths of up to 2.5 metres. There are plans during 2015 to expand the number of berths to 100. Shelter in the marina is excellent from all wind directions.

If arriving in Albania from another country, yachts should check-in with the authorities in Sarandë or Vlorë before proceeding to Marina Orikum. The marina will handle the usual harbour paperwork for yachts already cleared in for a fee of Euros 30.

Communication

Call Marina Orikum on VHF channel 15. Alternatively, telephone or email in advance for berthing information and reservations.

Navigation

The marina is protected by a long, L-shaped breakwater extending NW then NE from the shore. The entrance is at the N end of the breakwater between it and a large red buoy. The channel then continues, marked by a series of smaller red buoys, via a dog-leg along the line of the breakwater and into the marina. It is important to stay in the centre of the channel on entry, since least depths even here are around 2.75 metres and the depths shoal rapidly once out of the centre.

Berthing

Berthing assistance available on request. Berths are on either side of a long pontoon oriented N-S just inside the marina entrance or on the quays further into the marina. All berths are equipped with laid mooring lines.

Facilities

  • Toilets
  • Showers
  • Cafe/bar

Repairs

None, although some repairs may possibly be sourced from Vlorë.

Security

Good.

Location

The marina is around 1.5 kilometres from the small town of Orikum to the S. There are several food shops, two butchers, a supermarket and Vodafone and Eagle Mobile shops in the town. There is a group of three restaurants about 10 minutes walk along the road N towards Vlore. The Tiku & Mato restaurant (the modern building on the beach) is excellent, hugely popular with locals and not expensive.

Transportation

Price

Current daily berthing price for typical 13 metre yacht Euros 50 (May 2014)
