This is a fishing haven of scarce dimensions some 7 kilometres from the city centre. The Port of La Estaca was declared of General Interest in May, 1888. The port, that dates back to the beginning of the XIX century is on an outcrop, partly submerged, used from the beginning as the place to disembark. The port of La Estaca is the main nexus of union of the island with the outside world. It has an inner harbour for small vessels and a mole for mooring boats.

Navigation

The approach to Puerto de la Estaca is straightforward, no dangers. But in July and August a strong katabatic easterly wind, the Levante, makes entry to the port difficult.

The entrance to the Inner Harbour is very difficult to see as you enter the outer harbour. Cruisers advise to simply head for the red and green obelisks which will be in line. Turn 90 degrees to starboard and then 90 degrees to port.

Entrance

Puerto de la Estaca is a port of entry for Canary Islands. For details see Entrance: Canary Islands.
