More notes about the Marina

Marina Cres lies at the S end of the inlet of Cres Town, the capital of the island of Cres in Croatia. Operated by the government-owned ACI group, the marina offers 473 berths for yachts up to 25 metres in depths up to 5.0 metres. Shelter in the marina is excellent in all conditions.

Call Marina Cres on VHF channel 17. Alternatively, call or e-mail for advance reservations.

Navigation/Approach

There are no dangers in the approach to Marina Cres. The narrow, 500 metre wide inlet leading to Cres Town and the marina is entered from NW and opens out into a wide bay at the N end of which the town sits. The sides of the inlet are shallow, with rocky obstructions, especially on the N side, and a yacht should enter down the centre of the channel. The town and its small, shallow harbour lie just under a mile from the entrance on the NE side. The inlet narrows again once past the harbour and continues SSE to the pontoons of Marina Cres. The marina is entered via a narrow channel between the long breakwater that protects it from N and a small islet to the W. The channel is marked by lit port and starboard markers.

Personal experience

This is a pretty marina. They lost a charter contract on 2012 so have a lot of spaces for visitors. It is a 30 minute walk to the town, but safe and easy in your tender. The town is deceptive. As you pass on your way to the marina it looks unattractive with a big floating dry dock on one side and a major shore work on the other. However once in the town, it is charming. It has most things that a visitor would require. The Tourist Centre on the front is most helpful and can answer most questions. The shop in the green building on the north side of the quay is a well stocked hardware store.
