The town dates back to the 14th century and there are several old buildings to be discovered around the town.  Notable attractions include a Franciscan monastery from the XVI century with a Renaissance bell tower and the parish church of Our Lady of Health. Energetic visitors may fancy tackling the hiking trail that leads from the town to the peak of Mount Osorscica (588 m) and onwards to the town of Osor.

Nerezine harbour (top) and boatyard inlet (bottom)

The small harbour of Nerezine lies on the E coast of the island of Losinj, two miles S of the entrance to the Osorski Kanal, the narrow canal at the town of Osor which separates Losinj from the island of Cres. A former fishing village, the town has a modest tourism industry and several attractive old buildings. The harbour provides moorings for moderate draft yachts and an inlet half a mile S contains a boatyard and small marina with additional berths. Shelter here is good in all conditions except strong NE winds, in which both the harbour and marina would be potentially dangerous. There are plans to develop the boatyard inlet into a fully-fledged marina, but work has yet to start.

Navigation

There are no dangers in the approach to Nerezine. Depths in the harbour entrance are around 3.5 metres and in the harbour itself range from 2.0 - 3.0 metres.

Entrance

The nearest port of entry is Mali Losinj.

Berthing

Nerezine harbour

There are four main options for yachts berthing in Nerezine:

  1. Harbour breakwater Berth bows or stern-to the S breakwater, where there is room for 8-10 yachts in depths of around 3.0 metres, decreasing towards the root. Laid moorings. Water is available from a tap at the root.
  2. Pontoons Berth bows or stern-to one of the two pontoons extending from the S side of the harbour. There is space for some 40-50 yachts here, although many of the moorings are occupied by local boats. Depths range from 3.0 metres at the end to less than 2.0 metres at the root. Laid moorings, water and electricity.
  3. Inner harbour It is possible for a shallow draft yacht to lie alongside on the S side of the inner harbour, where there are depths of 2.0 - 2.5 metres, shoaling towards the head of the harbour. There are no facilities here.
  4. Boatyard inlet The boatyard in the inlet half a mile S of the harbour can accommodate several yachts alongside in the entrance, where depths are around 3.0 metres. There are numerous moorings at the head of the inlet, but these are shallow and only suitable for small craft.

Marinas & Yacht Clubs

None.
