Schinousa (Σχινούσσα) is a small island in the Small Cyclades (Μικρές Κυκλάδες - Mikres Kyclades) group. It has about 85 inhabitants. Its harbor Mersini (Μερσίνη) or Myrsini, has a few houses and two restaurants but most of the people live in the village of Chora or Panayia. There many nice and isolated beaches around the island.
For many years cruisers have been wondering about a palatial house on the cape south of Mersini (depicted on the chart as "Large House"). In 2006 this house was raided by the Greek police and a large number of looted antiquities were recovered. The house belonged to Christos Michaelides and his partner Robin Symes who has been convicted of trafficking in illicit antiquities along with Getty Museum curator Marion True.

Berthing Options
Ports
Mersini
Mersini or Mirsini or Myrsini (Μυρσίνη) is almost land-locked and very well protected from the meltemi but it is exposed to the southerlies and is subject to gusts.
It is best to avoid the quay which is used by the ferries. Anchor closer to the beach at 5-6 m. Good holding. Because the cove is narrow and fairly popular you may not have adequate swinging room. It is best to also take a line shore.
Warning: In the fall the wind is liable to change direction during the night. Use either a shore line or a second anchor at the stern.Marinas & Yacht Clubs
None.
Anchorages
Tsigouri
Tsigouri is just south east of Mersini. It is fairly well sheltered from the meltemi but, like Mersini, it is exposed to the southerlies.
Anchor on a patch of sand at 4-5 m depth. Good holding. It is about a 20 minute walk to Chora.
Warning: The Limenarchio (Coast Guard) may chase you away from the swimming area.Aligaria
There are several secluded anchorages south of Mersini. All are reasonably sheltered from the meltemi but exposed to the southerlies.
The one indicated to the east of Agrilos Island provides the best shelter. Anchor over sand in 5-6 m. Good holding. It is about a 45 minute walk to Chora.
Warning: Do not attempt to go between the islands. It is not deep enough. You have to take the long loop.Livadhi
