Dingle
| |
Dingle - (Irish: An Daingean or Daingean Uí Chúis, meaning Fort or "O'Cuis's Fort") is a town in County Kerry in Ireland on the Atlantic coast some 50 kilometres (30 mi) west-south-west of Tralee and 80 kilometres (50 mi) west-north-west of Killarney. The town is situated on a natural harbour below Slievanea mountain on the large Dingle peninsula, which lies south of the River Shannon and north of the Ring of Kerry.
Principal industries in the town are tourism, fishing and farming. In 2006 Dingle had a population of 1,920.[1] Dingle is situated in a Gaeltacht region.
The dramatic beauty of the Dingle Peninsula has been an inspiration and a wonder to visitors for hundreds of years. The clear and clean Atlantic seas wash against our rugged coastline providing the perfect arena for watersports, angling, and sailing.
We have golf links and courses. Beaches and hills for walking and trekking. Pubs and restaurants serving the best in food and drink, traditional music playing, everyone laughing. Dingle region is perfect for all types of holidays, for families, groups, couples, and for the sole soul who yearns for peace and quiet. Stay on the Dingle Peninsula and enjoy the relaxation. There are so many things to see, to do, to explore, to experience on the Dingle Peninsula . . . from almost 2,000 archaeological sites, to more walking than you could fit into a year, to Fungie, a bottlenose dolphin who's been living at the mouth of Dingle Harbour since 1984, to a day spent on the Blasket Islands.
The Dingle Peninsula is one of the world’s top tourist destinations; National Geographic has described the region as “the most beautiful place on Earth”. Tripadvisor.com also included the Dingle Peninsula as in their top twenty world destinations in 2008, and the sixth top destination in Europe. DoDingle.com strives to provide you with all the information you need to enjoy the holiday of a lifetime.

Dingle Marina was opened in 1992 and offers sheltered berths in the centre of the town, close to all amenities.
The marina is an excellent base for day cruising to Valentia Harbour, the Basket Islands, and the many small bays in the area. Derrynane to the south, Kilrush Marina in the Shannon Estuary, and the Aran Islands to the north are only a day's run away. |
